Be back next week

Doug and I are currently fueling our inner nerd on in the expansion pack on World of Warcarft. I'll spare those that have no idea what I'm talking about the details; but so far since Monday I've slept 8 hours.

..and yes. We're winning.

Something funny to hold you over:

Video Friday... again? 2 for 1 week!

Just a great story about a 767 that turns into a glider. o.O

BMW Takes two spots - and still somehow gets scratched. At least the guy leaves an apology note:

The Note

These people just used up one of their 9 lives:

Ah, nerds. Classical Music + Programmer + Scanner = Music?

Ah, gear-heads. Classical Music + Programmer + Formula 1 Race car = WAY cooler than the scanner. ("music" starts 1 minute in. hey, the engine has to warm up)

Video Friday?

Meh, whatever. I'm either behind or ahead. Pick one:

Best College Football Game Ever (BCFGE?):

Hey, if you're going to do something that hopefully saves your life - it can't hurt that it also looks like an angel while doing it:

Never heard someone do this with their voice. I know part of it is the sound reverb in the room, but it still impressive range / duality:

Winter Wonderland

Click the pic!

After looking through that, you can watch the video below. It was taken by my dad out on the lake (that you'll see plenty of pictures of) and the trip back to the cabin from there (~4 minutes).

Watch very closely at the 45sec-1min mark. You'll see him take off to about ~20 mph or so; and then me.. go by ... slightly faster. =)

Free stuff

I'm a big fan of free stuff. Its like normal stuff, but free. Probably one of the biggest reasons I really like the internet; its filled with free stuff. =)

In the last two weeks, I've run across a couple places that seem to offer some fairly decent free stuff, without too much crap along with it.

The first one is:

Daily Lit - this website lets you sign up for a book to receive in small chunks through email. From what I can tell these books are all in the public domain, which is what makes this site work so well. We all know we spend a ton of time reading emails that are pointless throughout our day, so why not spend 5 minutes and in a couple weeks, finish a book that you wouldn't have read before. Personally, I'm starting with Sun Tzu's Art of War.

The collection isn't huge - and like I said, I'm fairly sure these are abridged version - but hey, its free. Beggers can't be choosers.

Second one is much more nerd worthy (do *NOT* visit this link with Internet Explorer 6 - There are a lot of pop-ups and I can't comment how safe it will be for your computer. Firefox 2 or IE 7 only):

The Underdogs is a website that hosts a *ton* of old games (nerd term of vaporware). The site is extremely slow, the downloads are painfully slow too - but if you're looking for an old game to play. This is the place to go (or if you have an old computer you want to throw a very fun game on).

If you're looking for a place to start I'd recommend (highly):

Ascendancy The 41mb download looks like its going to take me ~2 hrs (like I said, slow site). The only thing wrong with this game is the horrible AI. But, but believe it or not, the creator of this game (in 1995) actually has an AI patch still available here

Keep an eye out this week for some great New Years pictures from the cabin as well as my first review of how good (or bad) this whole "HD-DVD" craze is.
