For those that have spent more than 10 seconds around me you probably have heard me mention something about an "auction crisis" and "hospitals losing money" or something.
Well, there's finally some local press about it as Adam Wilson of the Olympian attended our emergency board meeting yesterday:

If that was the only way hospitals were losing money right now...
Turns out medicare changed reimbursement rules as well this year which was initiated in October. With all the new coding rules and regs its amazing if hospitals can get the max in reimbursement. And patients aren't able to pick up the leftover charges so the hospital winds up eating that in "charity care". The new medicare requirements have added in an additional hurt which is somewhat a good thing (hopefully driving better patient care). Hospitals won't be able to get any reimbursement on certain conditions acquired during patient stays...which is all well and good if we can get the docs and nurses up to par and can get a foot up on prevention.
Needless to say...its getting a bit interesting trying to determine what new technology we can bring on for the next year. :)
